EMDR THERAPY

WHAT IS EMDR THERAPY

Although EMDR treatments were originally used to treat clients with a history of trauma and PTSD, it has since been integrated into the rehabilitation treatment of other disorders. Complicated grief, panic disorder, dissociative states, and many others can be treated with EMDR.

EMDR is an effective, research-supported type of psychotherapy for treating post-traumatic stress disorder. The first stage involves taking a thorough client history followed by a preparation stage. In the Rapid Eye Movement portion, the client focuses on an event that made them feel uncomfortable and identifies the belief he or she has about themselves as a result of this experience. For example, if a child believes that he is at fault for being abused by an adult, he may start to believe that he deserves pain.

HOW CAN I HELP?

EMDR therapy offers several benefits for individuals who have experienced a traumatic event. Firstly, it is a relatively short-term therapy, meaning that clients can expect to see results in a shorter amount of time than other forms of therapy. Additionally, EMDR therapy is a non-invasive treatment that does not require any medication or physical intervention. It is also a flexible therapy, as it can be adapted to suit each client’s specific needs and circumstances. EMDR therapy can help individuals process and resolve traumatic memories, reduce anxiety and stress, improve self-esteem, and promote overall well-being. By addressing the root causes of trauma, EMDR therapy can help individuals regain control over their lives and move towards a brighter future.
